Lot of minor and major changes done to a site can affect the page load time. Increasing the speed of your website is important not only to users, but to search engine rankings as well. Even "A one-second delay" in page load time can generate(approx values):

  • 15% fewer page views
  • 20% decrease in customer satisfaction
  • 10% loss in conversions
In fact, 50% of users expect websites to load in two seconds or fewer. And 45% will leave a page that takes three or more seconds delay to load. If your site takes over three seconds to load, you lose almost half of your visitors before they even appear on your site.

Thus, the page load time matters greatly for you and your site.

What is the good page load time?

90+(on PageSpeed Insights) =>Everything above 90 is good, therefore a page load time score above 90 is good. Page load time score between 50-89 is considered as Average and page load time score below 50 is regarded as poor.

How to check speed of your website and its page load time?

The first task you should do is to figure out your current page speed. This allows you to track your site speed and its each component functioning. It will also help you to work on all the drawbacks of your site too.

There are many free tools out there for analyzing how long it takes to load your website-:

  1. Page Speed is an open source program that helps you evaluate the performance of your web pages. It also provides recommendations on how to fix performance issues.
  2. GTmetrix is another great tool that helps you to measure your page load time and also provides valuable suggestions for free.
  3. Pingdom offers an easy-to-use site speed test that simulates that way a page is loaded in a web browser.

Tips to increase Page Load time and speed up your website-:

1. Optimize Your Images:

Images play a prominent role on a page whether it's used for providing explanation or maintaining the reader's interest in your content. Many bloggers just pick up the image and put in their content without seeking information about its file size and format. This causes their page to load slowly and causes loss of visitors.
---*---
For example- I used 3 images in my post with my content.
Image1-23kb
Image2-40kb
Image3-78kb
Content size-5-10kb
Extra-5kb
Total==>151-156kb (size only of your post)
Now the HTML and CSS with its widgets need more kbs similarly. Thus the total page size exceeds over 500-700kbs(approx). So more time to load the page.

Thus, Compressing and Optimizing Images becomes necessary before uploading them.
Many online tools allow you to compress the image without losing its quality (like Tinypng or compressordie) to more than half of the size or less. So always use them for compressing your image.
For Optimizing your image you can convert your image format (like png, jpg, jpeg etc) to WebP or other web supported and speedy formats.

2.Use Fast Web Hosting Services:

Fast Web Hosting service also plays a major role in improving your rank on Google Search Engine and providing fast Page load time. There are many Web Hosting Services present across the globe, but choosing one of them is not very easy. If you are using Blogger (Blogspot) then you don't need hosting as Google provides it, but buying a correct Hosting will help you increase your SEO and load time too.

3.Always use User-friendly and Fast Loading Templates:

You might prefer any template present across the internet and use it but always test the template on Google Page Speed and check whether it's mobile-friendly or not before changing your blog structure. The thing you should check before changing or buying a template are-:
  • Design and Page Structure (Important).
  • Page Load Time (Most Important).
  • User Friendly (Most Important).
  • Mobile and Desktop Friendly (Most Important).
  • Well coded (Most Important).
  • Performance (Important).
  • SEO optimised (Most Important)

4. Use asynchronous loading for CSS and JavaScript files:

Scripts like CSS and JavaScript can be loaded in two different ways:
Synchronously or Asynchronously.
  • Synchronous loading: Scripts are loaded and executed sequentially along with the other web page segments. Each time a function is called, the program execution waits until the function is returned before executing the next line of code.
  • Asynchronous loading: Scripts are loaded and executed parallelly in one go, wherein scripts are loaded concurrently as other web page components. Asynchronous scripts do not wait for other functions or statements to be executed.
Loading scripts asynchronously can speed up your pages because when a browser loads a page, it moves from top to bottom.

5.Minify HTML and CSS codes:

Minifying your HTML and CSS codes can help you greatly in speeding up your page load time. Minifying means to remove extra and useless codes from the HTML and CSS codes of your website or blog. Minification of scripts will surely help you reduce page load time. Many online tools offer for minification of HTML and CSS codes for free.

For example- Your total script size=2000kb
After minification process= 1900kb (approx value for understanding).
Therefore, minifying your HTML and CSS is necessary.

Hope it solves your problem and helps you to improve page speed.
